J.C. Lintzenich
A senior national security expert with more than three decades of experience across the Intelligence Community, Department of Defense, NATO, and U.S. Senate. J.C. has served as a Senior Advisor to the Director of National Intelligence, National Security Advisor to a senior U.S. Senator, and Defense Policy Director in the Office of the Secretary of Defense. He is a retired U.S. Army Military Intelligence Officer with a career that included service in elite military organizations and complex global operational environments. He currently serves as a Visiting Senior Fellow at the German Marshall Fund of the United States and holds board and advisory roles reflecting continued engagement with senior leaders across government, industry, and educational institutions. He has supported national-level decision-making, engaged extensively with allied governments and international partners, and worked at the intersection of policy, operations, and strategy in high-consequence environments. That experience informs how he advises clients today—focused on clarity, judgment, and action when the stakes are real.
"Washington is home to an extraordinary community of accomplished leaders, advisors, and subject matter experts, each bringing deep expertise from their own field. Today's most consequential challenges, however, rarely fit within a single discipline. In an increasingly interconnected world, government, business, technology, defense, intelligence, media, academia, nonprofit organizations, and international affairs are more interconnected than ever—across borders, across sectors, and through expanding public-private partnerships. Yet it remains uncommon to have operated successfully across so many of these environments. That breadth of experience enables me to bridge perspectives, translate between communities with different priorities, and help clients better understand the broader strategic environment in which decisions are made."
Clients are not engaging decades of experience simply for historical perspective—they are gaining a trusted advisor who has operated at the intersection of government, national security, international affairs, business, and strategic decision-making. Having advised senior military leaders, Members of Congress, Cabinet officials, and Intelligence Community leadership, J.C. understands how complex decisions are made, where competing interests converge, and how to help leaders navigate uncertainty with clarity and confidence.
My Approach
Every organization faces moments where the next decision carries outsized consequences. Whether evaluating a new market, navigating geopolitical uncertainty, preparing for a board discussion, responding to emerging technologies, or simply validating a strategic direction, the goal is the same: provide experienced, independent judgment before decisions are made—not after. Every engagement is tailored to the client's needs. Sometimes that means serving as a long-term strategic advisor or being retained by a larger advisory firm to provide specialized expertise. Other times it is a single conversation—an opportunity to pressure-test your assumptions, identify blind spots, and provide an experienced "azimuth check" before moving forward.
How I Work
My role is not to make decisions for clients, but to help them make better ones. That begins with listening, understanding the broader strategic environment, asking difficult questions, challenging assumptions when appropriate, and identifying risks and opportunities that may not be immediately apparent. The objective is practical, actionable insight that helps leaders move forward with greater confidence. Clients value candid conversations, independent judgment, discretion, and advice grounded in real-world leadership rather than theory.
Why Lintzenich Advisory
Lintzenich Advisory was founded on a simple belief: in an increasingly interconnected world, the most consequential decisions are rarely shaped by a single discipline. Business, government, geopolitics, technology, defense, intelligence, regulation, and international affairs increasingly influence one another. The firm's mission is to help leaders understand those intersections, anticipate what comes next, and gain the decision advantage needed to navigate complexity with confidence.
Lintzenich Advisory reflects how I have operated throughout my career—focused on clarity, disciplined thinking, and helping make informed decisions in complex environments.
